Many child abuse victims do not receive any help or services as children. The adverse effects of not dealing with trauma can be significant, regardless of duration or degree. Crime Victims’ Compensation Program of Texas

CVC is a financial assistance program for victims of violent crime. If your case meets all of the requirements below, click here to apply online.

  1. Parents/guardians of victims under 18 must file an application for Crime Victims’ Compensation on behalf of the child.
  2. All crimes must be reported to law enforcement or Child Protective Services within a reasonable time period.
  3. Applications must be filed with CVC within 3 years of the crime. Child victims have until they are 21 years old to file for compensation; however, CVC encourages child victims to apply as soon as possible.
  4. Applicants must meet the following residency requirements:
    • The crime must occur in Texas to a Texas resident or a United States resident, or
    • The crime must involve a Texas resident who becomes a victim in another state or country that does not have crime victims’ compensation benefits for which the victim would be eligible.
