I have a BS in Sociology & Criminal Justice from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and a Master’s in Social Work from Texas State University. I am a licensed social worker and have been working with Children’s Advocacy Centers since 2005. I enjoy helping our kids and family in their time of need.

Ellen Johnston, LCSW-S

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor and received my Master’s in Social Work in 2015 from the University of Pittsburgh. I have been practicing with children, youth, and families since that time in various roles including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, emergency evaluations, and clinical supervision. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and trained in TF-CBT to support the healing of the clients that I work with. I also have experience working with parents to enhance parenting skills for children who have experienced abuse, utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed skills. My goal is to help clients find peace and regulation in their day-to-day lives, knowing that they are able to move through their adversities regardless of where they come from. I currently supervise GCCAC LMSW(s) and support GCCAC in policy adherence and grant writing.

I am a licensed professional counselor through the State of Texas. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas State University. I completed my master’s graduate internship working with children, adolescents, and adults for a children’s advocacy center. In addition, I worked at a private practice for two years providing mental health counseling to children, adolescents, and their families. I have experience working with survivors of trauma, anxiety, depression and parenting support. I am a Registered Play Therapist and trained in using EMDR and positive discipline. My goal is to help the families I work with navigate this journey to healing.

I was born and raised in Seguin and attended Texas Lutheran College. My involvement with youth has spanned many years working with several local sports associations as a coach and administrator. Professionally, I have had a career in sales and a passion for helping raise money for non-profit organizations that are involved with children. My fundraising work has led to me being selected as Citizen of the Year by both the Seguin Chamber of Commerce and the Seguin Gazette newspaper. I am now on staff to help financially support this tremendous organization that helps abused children and their families through this trying time.

I have experience providing and guiding direct services to children and families in various systems and  settings. My goal is to empower children and families to initiate the healing process and extend supportive resources.

I am a certified radKIDS instructor and trained in MBF Child/Teen Safety Matters and I’m excited to expand our child abuse prevention program. I am honored to support our children and families during such a difficult process.

I started volunteering at the GCCAC during one of my courses, then extended that into an internship, which led to my current role. I have several years of experience in working with children and families who have been impacted by many different forms of trauma through my role as a Family Advocate. I am so happy to be able to support and guide families and children of our community on their courageous journey of healing.

I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Texas. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree from Wright State University in Rehabilitation Services, and my Masters of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2023. I have worked with children, adolescents and families providing mental health treatment for trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD and ASD among many other emotional challenges. I am currently EMDR trained, and trained in TF-CBT. My goal working for the GCCAC is to help support families and provide a safe space for them to grow and cope with life experiences.

Over the past two years, I have gained valuable experience working with children, adolescents, and families in roles such as an intern and family advocate, where I provided mental health treatment for issues including depression, anxiety, and trauma. My professional aspiration in joining the Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center (GCCAC) is to contribute to the support of families and to foster a nurturing environment that empowers them to effectively navigate and build resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

I hold a BA in Psychology from Texas State University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Simmons University. Trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), I am equipped with evidence-based practices that aim to help children process and heal from the impact of trauma. With a passion for helping individuals rebuild their lives, my goal is to provide compassionate, professional care that fosters resilience and empowerment for children and their families.

I hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in wellness and a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling both from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have gained clinical experience in multiple settings including working with children, adolescents, and adults with PTSD, ADHD, Anxiety, and depression in group and individual settings, as well as in community wellness, and ABA therapy environments. I am also a certified facilitator in Circle of Security Parenting (COSP), where I teach and support caregivers in strengthening parent-child relationships. I am excited to transition from an internship role into a full-time staff position at GCCAC. My goal as a therapist is to continue to provide a safe compassionate space, and foster a nurturing environment to empower families and individuals throughout their healing journey.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have a BA in Psychology and a BA in Sociology from Texas A&M University. I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio with a Master’s of Science in Counseling and Mental Health. I have provided therapy in the CAC world since 2020. I have been trained in TF-CBT, CFTSI, EMDR, and PBT-PSB. Other modalities I practice are play therapy, sand tray, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I strive to create a safe and healing environment for clients, whether they are children, adolescents, or adults. I offer counseling services in English and Spanish.

I received my BA in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and received my MS in clinical mental health counseling at the same university. I have clinical and administrative experience in a variety of settings including working with children with different mental health challenges, private practice, and wellness communities for the elderly. My modalities include play therapy, TF-CBT, and internal family systems. I am excited to transition from an internship position to full-time staff at the GCCAC, and I hope to continue helping children and families promote resiliency, strength, and healing in a safe and welcoming environment.

I am a licensed professional counselor through the State of Texas under the supervision of Kelly Zentner, LPC-S. I received my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M San Antonio. I have over 4 years of experience in residential care, case management, and program direction for a transitional living program, I bring a well-rounded perspective to our work together.
At the core of my practice is building a strong, trusting rapport with clients, as I believe this is essential for effective therapy. I understand that growth often comes with discomfort, and I am dedicated to supporting clients through their challenges. With a background in crisis intervention, I have successfully worked with individuals of all ages, including those who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. I approach this sensitive work with empathy, patience, and a trauma-informed lens, helping clients heal at their own pace while offering a safe space for them to rebuild their lives.
My goal is to empower clients, guiding them towards a path of healing and growth, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

I received my BA in Psychology with a minor in criminal justice, as well as my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio. My clinical experience is from working at a Residential Treatment Facility, Community Counseling, case management, and internships with children and families who have experienced trauma. My passion is working with survivors while using trauma centered modalities, such as TF-CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Person-Centered Theory. I hope to be able to provide a healing and safe place for clients and families to thrive and be able to reach their goals.

I am originally from Southern California and have proudly called Guadalupe County home for the past 33 years. Over the years, I’ve worked as a paraprofessional with both Seguin ISD and SCUC ISD, and I’ve also gained experience in telecommunications while working for the City of San Antonio and Guadalupe County. In 2005, my family and I purchased a small business, which I continue to own and operate today. Helping others has always been a true passion of mine, and I am honored to be part of the team at GCCAC.

I received my BA in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, and am currently pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health from Texas Tech University. I have worked with children and their caregivers as a family advocate for 3 years. I am eager to continue learning and growing in trauma-informed approaches including Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. I have been working with children of all ages in a mental health setting since 2021, including two years at a residential treatment center and the last two years at an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) clinic. Specifically, I have experience in working with children who have neurodiversity, aggression, suffered trauma, or have sexual-related behaviors. Helping others is a driving passion for me, and I am determined to help in any way I can at GCCAC.

I am currently pursuing an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I am interested in trauma-informed, humanistic counseling that respects each person’s experience and growth potential. I am especially interested in learning more about trauma-focused approaches, including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I approach this work with humility and optimism, feeling honored to support individuals and families on their journey toward healing, resilience, and renewed hope.
